  • 1. Zorunluluk gösterir.

    You must stay in bed for a couple of days.

    We must find a porter to carry the luggage.

    Motorists must carry a red warning triangle and a first-aid kit.



    Tahmin belirtir. He drives a Mercedes. He must be rich.



    2. Olumsuzda yasaklama belirtir.

    He mustn't dress so casually for work./İş için öyle spor giyinmemeli.

    You mustn't get any exercise without medical advice./Tıbbi tavsiye olmadan egzersiz yapmamalısın.



    3. must have done = -mış olmalı

    Geçmiş ile ilgili güçlü bir tahmin gösterir.

    There's no cheese left. They must have finished it./Peynir kalmamış. Onu bitirmiş olmalılar.

    He is late. He must have been stuck in a traffic jam./Gecikti. Trafiğe yakalanmış olmalı.



    4. He must wear a suit.=He has to wear a suit. à2.ci örnekte kişinin gideceği yerde kural gereği (dış baskı) takım elbise giyme zorunluluğu var ki has to kullanılmış. Kısaca must içimizden gelen bir zorunluluk, have to ise dıştan gelen bir zorunluluk veya kural için kullanılır.

    I must go home at ten o'clock (saat on'da evde olmalıyım çünkü yapılacak işlerim var)

    I have to go home at ten o'clock (saat on'da evde olmalıyım çünkü sokağa çıkma yasağı var)



    5. Must geçmiş zamanda kullanılmaz. Geçmiş zamanı ifade ederken have to / has to fiilinin geçmiş zamanı olan had to kullanılır. I couldn't go out last night, because I had to finish my homework.

    She had to stay at home because she was ill.



    6. Gelecek zaman ifade edilirken will have to kullanılır. I will have to earn more if I have a child.



    7. Olumsuz kullanımlarda ise anlam tamamen farklıdır. You mustn't smoke in this part of restaurant. (yasaklanmış). Childen mustn't go out alone at night. (çıkmamalılar). People mustn't eat raw meat. (insanlar çiğ et yememelidir)



    Kısaca MUST :

    a) Kaçınılmaz gereklilik anlamında: Ali is putting on weight.He must go on a died. A person must eat to live.

    b)Akıl yürütrken ve gerekçelere dayalı tahmin yaparken: He is driven very fast. He must be a good driver. She seems badly.She must have a stomachache.

    c)If'li cümlelerde: If you must smoke,use that ashtray.

    d)Alay ederken: Must you make that dreadful noise?

    e)Yasaklarda MUST NOT kullanılır: You mustn't pass the road when it lights green. You mustn't smoke in the classrooms.



    NOT : Must gereklilik gösterir.Gerekliliğin olmadığını göstermek için DON'T NEED veya NEEDN'T kullanılabilir. He must read the book tonight. He needn't read it tonight.

    f) Akıl yürütme bildirir: His accent is very good. He must have stayed in England for a long time.
