    TR: Microsoft Silverlight 4, uzun bir süredir "beta" aşamasında test ediliyordu. Multimedya ortamı Silverlight, duyurulmasının üzerinden bir kaç ay sonra nihayet final sürümüne geçiş yaptı. MIX 2010'da açıklanan Microsoft Silverlight 4, mikrofon ve kamera desteği ile geldi.

    Genel Bakış
    Silverlight, WPF türevi görsel yazılımlama tekniğiyle çokluortam, çizge (grafik), animasyon ve interaktif uygulamaların tek eklenti üzerinden yürütülmesini sağlıyor. Esas amacı ağ tabanlı zengin interaktif uygulamaların hazırlanabilmesi için bir teknoloji düzlemi oluşturmak olan Silverlight özellikle Microsoft'un .NET tabanlı dillerine desteği ile dikkati çekiyor. .NET Framework ile beraber gelen CLR'ın bir kısmını taşıyan Silverlight böylece istemci tarafında düzlem bağımsız olarak MultiThread ve MultiCore desteğine sahip oluyor.

    Veri ve İş Uygulamaları
    Silverlight 2.0 sürümü itibari ile veri ve iş uygulamalarının tarayıcı içerisinde geliştirilebilmesi için Socket Programlama ve ağ hizmetleri desteği ile görsel denetimler bazında UI sanallaştırmayı da destekliyor. 2.0 sürümü içerisinde bulunan DataGrid denetimine ek olarak 3.0 sürümünde genel DataForm gibi yeni veri denetimleri ve RIA Services yapısı iş uygulamalarının geliştirilebilmesini kolaylaştırma.

    Video Uygulamaları
    Silverlight, WMV ile VC-1 türü videoları ve WMA, MP3 formatlı ses içeriklerini desteklenen tüm tarayıcılarda oynatılmasını, çalıştığı sistemde Windows Media Player veya ActiveX eklentilerine ihtiyaç duymadan sağlıyor. Silverlight 3.0 sürümü ile beraber yazılım geliştiricilerin kendi video codeclerine ait decoder'ları uygulamalarına entegre etmeleri de sağlanıyor.

    Uyumluluk
    Microsoft Silverlight, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 ve Windows Vista, Mac OS 10.4.8 (veya üstü) Intel üzerinde Internet Explorer 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, Opera, Chrome, Safari ve Mozilla Firefox 2, 3 tarayıcılarıyla çalıştırılıyor. Linux için sosyal topluluklar tarafından ilerletilen Moonlight projesi ile Silverlight 1.0 desteği verilmektedir. 2.0 ve sonraki sürümler için Linux desteğinin gelmesi sosyal toplulukların gönüllü çalışmalarına dayanıyor.
